Monday 11 November 1918

Biddy, Eileen & I go to Vancouver to see Peace celebrations. A large firework explodes near me and I collapse. Am carried into offices of Daily Province newspaper & later to a druggist store. Great celebration but too much noise for my nerves.
We leave for home at 5.30 pm.

Got leave to go home to Lynn Valley from noon till 12 […… .]. Left Hospl. @ 9.30 am. Met Biddy in Vancouver & did shopping. To Lynn Valley @ 3 pm. Mrs. Haswell calls @ 4 pm. Return to Hospl. @ 12 midnight.

First objective of attack by PPCLI achieved, a second one contemplated.
B’n lose heavily 49 on our left and 25 Bn (2nd Division) on our right in Courcellette. Many wounded. No stretchers nor bearers. Men cannot be spared to look after wounded. Water badly needed Capt Sullivan OC No 2 Coy. Major Martin and Mr Rosamund killed. No 4 Co lose heavily. C.S.M. Jacques & Sergt Clason are killed also Pte Matthews of Vancouver. All PPCLI.
Bn take 62 prisoners.

Raining unmercifully
Busy packing up. Said good bye to Reverend & Mrs. N.J. Thompson also Mr Holte.

4 pm young Frank Neate calls: busy getting ready. Leave at 5 pm for Vancouver, after having supper with Mrs. Graham and Charles
To Vancouver at 6:30 pm to C.P.R
Train leaves at 6:45 pm. I kiss Mrs. Graham good bye & bid good bye to Charles also.

To Post Office & received my transportation papers from Ottawa.
Mrs Graham (Bessie) says “I am absolutely Happy” ?!!x?????
Said good bye to Mr Neats, Maude, Jack Barker, Whipps.
To Vancouver with Mrs. F Graham & Charles. Went to Dominion & Rex Theatre. C.P.R. Station.
To Neate’s and Esdaile’s & I said good-bye also to Councillor Westover & Duncan’s.
Back to Graham’s at 10:30 pm

To Vancouver
Sold my 303 & 22 Rifles to Mr Callow for $25.00. Made the transaction on the boat No. 3 Ferry.
To Wagstaffe’s Burnaby & stayed till 6:30 pm. Said goodbye to all. Wish speedy return etc:
Home at 9:30 pm. Had late supper with Mrs & Charles Graham & returned at 11:30 pm.

Turkey is at war with Russia & Great Britain.

Raining heavy all day
Packing up & doing odd jobs

To Vancouver & registered my title deeds & now they are kept in the vault of the Court House Vancouver.
To Quirt’s & said goodbye to the family also to Theobald’s.
Home at 10 pm.
Man named Fritz Johnson shoots himself on Draycott Road at Mr. Edge’s Residence.

I write to Gilbert Hall at Customs House City regarding “Old Soldiers”. Mrs. F Graham & self go to Vancouver to see the “Million Dollar Mystery” at the Rex Theatre.

Charles Theobald & self put up framework of kitchen. Charles Graham goes to Vancouver. Mr Froggatt calls & I pay him $2.00 regarding Province Newspaper subscription. Mrs Graham calls at 4:30 pm & leaves message for Charles Germyn. Germans are retreating (30 miles)
