Observer burnt to death. \u00a0Pilot has feet burned.\u00a0 The other crashes to earth in Neuville St. Vaast both seriously injured.\u00a0 Enemy possess a very fast machine.\u00a0 Ours are much too slow.<\/p>\n<p><em>*A scout plane is type of <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Surveillance_aircraft\"><em>surveillance aircraft<\/em><\/a><em> used for the purpose of discovering an enemy position and directing artillery. Aerial reconnaissance was often a hazardous task because of a requirement to fly at slow speeds and at low altitudes. The task was made all the more dangerous with the arrival of additional German flying squadrons, including <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Manfred_von_Richthofen\"><em>Manfred von Richthofen<\/em><\/a><em>&#8216;s highly experienced and well equipped (with the Albatros D.III) <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jasta_11\"><em>Jasta 11<\/em><\/a><em> (No. 11 Fighter Squadron), which led to sharp increase in Royal Flying Corps casualties.(<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wikipedia.com\/\"><em>www.wikipedia.com<\/em><\/a><em>)<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>5 enemy \u2018planes attack two of our Scouts and send them to earth one in flames.
