Sky Pilot and the Twin Towers

Sky Pilot Mountain wedged a passion for alpinism into Arnold Shives’ life. The peak is close to his home in Vancouver – and a log cabin with a functioning wood stove situated a short hour’s hike below the tree line made a great base camp. Arnold first attempted Sky Pilot in 1960, and a year later he climbed nearby Tombstone Tower. His Sky Pilot image reflects his penultimate ascent during the fateful September of 2001 (9/11) with his two children. Artwork details
