GPS in Hand

Getting to the top of the mountain and back is much easier with a GPS (Global Positioning System) device in hand. GPS is a navigational system that operates from radiowave signals transmitted by satellites. When interpreted by a GPS device, it will fix your precise geographic location. With the proper topographical information loaded into a handheld GPS, a mountaineer has instant access to contours, elevations, summits, routes, trails, rivers, lakes and a wealth of other geographical features and information.
