A Church in the Mountains

For lifelong climber Martin Kafer, being in the mountains is the same as being in a church or saying a prayer. He finds in nature a spiritual presence, particularly in the mountains. Martin and his wife Esther were born in Switzerland, where they first climbed. When they came to British Columbia in the 1960s the Kafers fell in love with the Coast Mountains, becoming leaders and inspiring mentors to many mountaineers.
