A Ridge and a Peak
After decades of mountaineering, Don and Phyl Munday struggled to the top of Mount Reliance in 1946. The photograph shows them seated on the summit. Don’s health meant this would be their last first ascent. What thoughts ran through their minds? Later, Phyllis wrote,
“When my old body is finished and dies, I’m sure my spirit will come to a place like this: a lovely woodsy trail, a beautiful lake, an alpine meadow, a ridge and a peak. For all this had been heaven to me on earth.”*
