Vasculum to the Peaks
Provincial Botanist John Davidson attended mountaineering camps near Mount Garibaldi and was the first botanist to collect alpine plants in the area. The specimens were first put in a vasculum which he wore slung over the shoulder; Davidson’s rests by his legs in this ca. 1915 photograph. The device atop the tent pole is a plant press, used for drying plants to preserve them for a herbarium.
