Lantern Night

Mountain scenery, spectacular by nature, inspires climbers to record its beauty. In the early days, some photographers introduced colour to black and white images by tinting their glass lantern slides by hand. These were given a public viewing once a year on “Lantern Night.” This image of Dorothy Ingraham standing amidst wildflowers in front of Helm Lake and Black Tusk, ca. 1913 – 1920 was likely a show stopper.
