Rock Gear
With their lives hanging in the balance, rock climbers depend on their equipment for success and safety. Many modern climbers carry a ‘rack’ with nuts, hexes and cams – anchoring devices that can be placed into cracks or holes in the rock face, and later removed. These anchors are attached by quickdraws, or slings and carabiners, to a rope with one end tied in to the climber’s harness and the other end held by a belayer using a belay device. The anchors, quickdraws, rope and harness provide safeguards in the case of a slip or fall.
