Riding to the Monarch
It took several years to prepare for the Alpine Club of Canada’s 1913 camp at “the Monarch of the Rockies,” Mount Robson. The newly constructed Grand Trunk Pacific Railway deposited the cream of the mountaineering world near Robson on July 28. People and gear disembarked at the side of the tracks, then headed to a summer camp that would be crowned with success, the first documented ascent of Robson.
