Botany John and the BCMC

By chance, Provincial Botanist John Davidson chose the right store to locate maps for his collecting activities in 1911. The store owner was J.C. Bishop, president of the BC Mountaineering Club (BCMC). The mountaineers were greatly enthused by Davidson’s work, and assisted with his field work at their Garibaldi summer camps. Soon a botanical section of the BCMC was formed and in 1918, this evolved into the Vancouver Natural History Society. That Society ultimately developed into a leading advocate for conservation and education in the region.
