Surveying and Mapping Garibaldi
Neal Carter was into mountaineering at an early age. Surveying and history also fascinated him. He is seen using his home-made surveying plane table, positioned atop stacked rocks, sighting to other peaks. In 1923, Carter and friends explored and mapped the area to the north of Garibaldi Park, in anticipation of next year’s summer camp at Avalanche Pass. This exploration and publicity led to the expansion of the park’s boundary northward in 1928.
