Stayed in all day. Blisters on feet from walking to Chiselhurst.

Two airmen in 2 single seater Clayton built (of Lincoln) machines call at the Hospital to see one of their comrades who crashed near Orpington fortnight ago. They gave a thrilling exhibition of flying, looping loop, spirals, etc.

Our gains increasing.

Very hot day.

To Orpington in afternoon with Nield.

Letter from Aunt Louise asking why I have not written her.

Monrufret goes to London on “French Leave”.

*“French leave” was essentially the same thing as being away without leave. http://www.lexiophiles.com/english/pardon-my-french

Pt. Nield & I go to see the historic Orpington Church dating back to 1200. A number of the Dethick & Bassett families were Vicars circa 1400.

 – showers

Not medically inspected yet.

I go to Orpington & Green Street Green. Small villages, have tea at latter place. 1/6.

The Colonel & two other officers give me a short “Star Chamber” exam & are satisified with my condition.

*In modern usage, legal or administrative bodies with strict, arbitrary rulings and secretive proceedings are sometimes called, metaphorically or poetically, star chambers. This is a pejorative term and intended to cast doubt on the legitimacy of the proceedings. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Chamber)
