Notice appears in Bde. Orders for me to be reverted to Private. Wow!
As I am “refused permission” to go overseas again, 4th time they tell me. I have to rest up & have done my bit.

Returned to duty from Mapping School to go as expert draughtsman to Forestry Corps.

Leave Derby on 3 pm train. Should have been 2.18 but late. Alice sees me off. Arr. St. Pancras 5:30 pm. Leave Victoria for Seaford @6.25 & arrive 9:30 pm. Rained heavily.

Wire for & get 1 day xtension. Call on Mr. & Mrs. Wear & Harry Draycot of Derby.
Friday 12 October 1917
At Mapperley I lecture on aeroplane photographs & war matters to the school in morning. Visiting in afternoon. Leave Mapperley to catch 3.3 train for Derby. Call on Mr. & Mrs. Bailey @ Stanley Grange. At Library in Derby for two hrs. Take Cousin Alice home. To see the Arcadians in evening with Alice, Alice (Jr.) & René (Mackay) Ripping.

Leave L’pl for Mapperley Mid Ry at 2:15 pm via Derby. Arr. Derby @ 5.33. Entrain @ Great North’n Ry @6.35 where my cousin Alice whom I called upon, sees me off. Arr. West Hallam 6.48 pm. Katie (Mrs. Draycot) is there to meet me & we walk 2 miles to Mapperley. Meet Lily (Childers) @ home.
