The Battle of the Aisne has lasted 18 days
To Haswell’s at 8 pm.
*The Battle of the Aisne – A follow up attack by French and British forces after the Battle of the Marne. The battle began on September 12th. The German troops quickly retreated and then created entrenched defensive positions on the North Bank of the Aisne River. The French and English also dug in, creating entrenched positions.
Monday 28 September 1914 – dull
Up at 6:30 am. go to wharf at Union Steam Ship Co. at 7:30 am. No news of SS. Venture. She arrives at 9:30 am. Mrs. Graham on board. I escort her to Haswell’s & at 1 pm leave for my place.
Mrs. Graham calls at my place at 7:30 pm stays ½ hour & then home. I escort her. I [go] home 10:30 pm
Sunday 27 September 1914
Raining all fore noon.
I go to Captain Purdie’s to hold an examination of non-commissioned officers. I am the examiner
Stay from 2 pm till 5 pm
Haswell calls regarding wire from Mrs. Graham. I go to Haswell’s at 6 pm & stay till 8:30 pm. To Vancouver with her. I stay in town all night.
Sunday 2 August 1914 – fine & warm
To St Clement’s in morning and evening 1st alone 2nd with John Neat.
To Neat’s for Dinner and supper. Presented to them – a new Union Jack for use on their flagpole. Introduced to Mr & Mrs Shellshear at Neats. In evening after Church – to town. Met Mr Gus Berk – gave him letters to post for me. At 8:45 pm to Haswell’s with John Neat. Left fo’ home at 10:30 pm
Friday 3 July 1914 – very hot
Right Honorable Joseph Chamberlain is dead.
Working on Vestry till 11:30 pm then home & to Haswell’s for Mrs. Graham. Leave at 12:40 for Vancouver. I cash my pension cheque $38.85. Then on to Granville St. & Hastings St. to make purchases with Mrs. Graham. Met Misses Minnie & Ferne Quirt. To Rex Theatre till 5:30. To White Lunch & had supper. Home to Haswell’s at 6:45 pm. Had supper at Haswell’s. Back to my house at 9 pm. Stayed till 9:45 pm. Then to Haswell’s. Mrs. Graham leaves for the Prince Albert boat at 10:30 pm in company of Mrs. & Mr. Haswell, Mr. Little and myself. Say goodbye & back home at 12:30 midnight.

Fine and hot
Had lunch at Fetherstonhaugh’s & supper at Wagstaffes.
To Haswell’s and call for Mrs Graham at 10 am. Take car for Burnaby at 10:30. Arrive at Mrs Fetherstonhaugh’s at 12:15 noon. Introduced Mrs Graham to Mrs Fetherstonhaugh. Walked into garden, picked cherries in orchard. Had very pleasant times. Left family tree with Mrs Fetherstonhaugh. To visit Wagstaffe’s at 4 pm. Very nice reception. Stayed till 7:30 pm then to New Westminster with the family. Took train for home at 10:10 and arrive home at 12:15 midnight. Took photos at [Fr & Wagstaff]
