Up at 9.30 am.  A lovely day.

Leave Liverpool (Lime St.) at 3.55 pm for London & arr at 8.37.  Miss train for Egham & have to take the 10.15 for Staines.  Walked to camp 6 miles.  Get in at 1.30 pm.  Made down my bed of blankets & sleep sound.

Wednesday 17 July 1918

Put in pass for Liverpool till Sunday evening.  Get the pass @ 5 pm instead of noon on a/c of slackness of clerks.  Leave London @ 9.35 and arr L’pool 3.55 am.  Bridge blown up by explosion.  Suspect enemy agents.

Exploration of Stewart trench recently captured by Capt Stewart. Discover 4 enemy dugouts 15 feet deep, trench 5 feet deep & 3 to 3 1/2’ wide.
Leave Ypres for Poperinghe to take train for England as my bro’ Harry is undergoing a delicate operation in hospital at Liverpool.

Saturday 17 July 1915 – fair

Send £3 to Mrs E. Rawsthorne of 49 Deane Road, Kensington, Liverpool, and £4.10 to Miss K. Hustwayte of Risley Co. Derby. The above was money left by Private Hustwayte and Lance Corporal Rawsthorne for me to forward.
I also send [kitting?] to Mrs Rawsthorne and one to my bro’ Harry for myself. I go to Folkestone with Private Thomas. I visit the Fisherfolk and have chat with them. Back to camp at 11:35.

Monday 14 June 1915 – fine

To Alder Hey and Mill Road Hospitals and took paper to Canadians.
To Liverpool on bikes. Had narrow escape from Death. Bike skidded in front of a street car. Only a few bruises. To S.G Upton’s in evening and played cards until 11:30. Left for home at 12 midnight. Harry sits up.
Sent $5.00 to Reverend N.J Thompson for church funds.

Went down town with Harry and made purchases.
Lloyd’s garage burns down and £2,000 loss. No insurance! (Lloyd’s of Stafford)

Left Stafford in evening for Liverpool and arrived at 8:30 pm. Took my bike also. Had tea with Professor and Miss Bradbury of William Salt Archaeological Society Library.
Had tea in Stafford with Edith (Mrs C.V Green).

Intended going to Liverpool but cancelled it.
To Loughboro in afternoon with Maud, May, and Gert. Bought gloves for all and present for Joe Draycot. Had tea at a restaurant. Cycled back to Seagrave and arrived at 8:30 pm

Harry and I leave Sileby for Liverpool at 3:17 pm and arrive at Liverpool at 7 pm. Call at Yates and see the girls before leaving also at Aunt’s in Leicester and say good-byes. Call at Upton’s and stay till 11:30 pm.

My brother Harry arrives by the 11:10 am train from Liverpool. We look around the town of Stafford and afterwards to 151 Meyrick Road to Ede’s and Cyril. Leave Stafford with Harry for Seagrave. Arrive at Seagrave at 8 pm. Maud and May are at Loughboro’ attending convention of P.M Delegates. They are home at 11:30 pm.
