Wartime Climbs

Mountaineering parties continued their usual activities during the First World War, although numbers were reduced as men were called to military duty. Two members of a four-day expedition to Cathedral Mountain near Vancouver appear in this photograph. Photographer Charles Chapman’s camera case rests on top of the bulky backpacks.
