Climber’s Guide
Mountaineering in the coastal ranges was transformed by young climbers like Dick Culbert (left) and Glenn Woodsworth (right), shown ca. 1962. They learned mountaineering at a young age from experienced hands, then honed their skills through long summers of exploration bagging first ascents of hundreds of peaks. Culbert distilled their knowledge into a Climber’s Guide, published in 1965, that instantly became a vital reference for coastal mountaineers.
